Boy Scout Motto

The Boy Scouts of America was first founded in 1910.  The first Boy Scout motto was “to teach [boys] patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values.”

The current Boy Scout Motto is “Be Prepared!”

When someone asked Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts of America, what the Boy Scout motto meant, he explained that boys should be prepared for “any old thing.”  The Boy Scout motto of “Be Prepared” means that Scouts will learn skills to help them in any situation, but also that they will be able to become productive citizens and meet any challenge that life gives them.
